What if the word “homosexual” was never meant to be in the Bible? 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a feature documentary that follows researchers tracing the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a 1946 mistranslation. It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University and features commentary from prominent scholars and pastors.

McPherson First UMC will host a free public screening on Sunday, June 14 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The screening is part of a larger Pride weekend organized by the McPherson Social Outreach League.

The weekend opens Saturday, June 13 at McPherson Wall Park from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM with speakers, vendors, music, and food. It continues Sunday, June 14 in the McPherson First parking lot from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with food trucks and arts and crafts vendors. The documentary screening at McPherson First concludes the weekend.

No registration is required and admission is free. Anyone curious about the film’s subject is welcome to come, watch, and consider the questions it raises together.
