Step into the Serve Center this week and the ceiling is back in place, the tables are set, and the room looks like itself again. All across the building, spaces are returning to us as the project moves into its final closeout.
What's Happening
Most of the major work is now at ninety-five percent. Crews are returning ceiling grid and tile across the second floor, finishing ductwork, and wrapping insulation. A new water treatment system gets tied in this week to keep the equipment healthy for years to come. The electrical work is complete, the controls are coming online, and technicians continue the room-by-room startup and air balancing that fine-tunes each unit.
A Note from the Youth Rooms
If you spend time in the youth rooms, you may notice a small gap between the new ductwork and the unit. It is intentional. Those rooms have open ceilings, so fresh outdoor air is delivered just in front of the return and pulled across, arriving within a few degrees of room temperature. You can see it here only because there is no finished ceiling to hide it, and the system is already tested and balanced. It is a good reminder that even the parts we can see are working exactly as designed.
What to Expect
A crane returns on Wednesday, July 1, to set the boiler vent stacks. This visit is much smaller than the April crane pick, with parking and through-traffic on the south side closed only while the crane is set up. Please park on the far east side of the lot that morning. Domestic water, including hot water, will be off at points this week while the new water treatment system is tied in, with normal service back by Wednesday. Finish work is underway as well, including paint, trim, acoustic panels in Hess Hall, and a few drywall and flooring repairs.
Looking Ahead
The boiler system starts up after the July 4 weekend, and P1 expects to be fully demobilized the week of July 13, with every room returned to us by then. Owner training is set for July 16, followed by final inspections and project closeout in mid-July.
By the Numbers
113 households have committed $1,845,113 toward the campaign. To date we have received $968,278.07, which is 55% of our $1.75 million goal.
