Every time someone joins this church, they make five promises: prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Over five weeks we take them one at a time, through the big stories of Genesis and Exodus.
Week four is service. Israel has walked out of Egypt and is standing at the edge of the sea with Pharaoh's chariots closing in, and they ask to go back. Not because slavery was good. Because it was known.
Moses tells them to stand their ground and keep still. Then the sea opens, and somebody has to walk into it. God does the part we cannot do, and we do the part that is ours.
October 4 is World Communion Sunday. We share communion at both services and take up the special offering that sends students to school here and on other continents.
