The Leadership Board met on June 24 and took action to strengthen the church's financial stewardship, continued a season of reading together on healthy leadership, and weighed a possible community partnership. Leah Jex opened the meeting with a reflection on seeking to understand others before being understood, naming it as the heart of working through conflict in a Christ-like way.

Endowment Fund Policy Moving to Church Conference

The board voted to recommend an updated Endowment Fund Policy to the fall Church Conference, where the congregation will take final action. The revised policy replaces the church's 2013 guidelines and is written to protect long-term gifts so they keep serving the church for generations. Members also discussed how giving to current ministry needs continues alongside these longer-term funds.

Simplifying How We Manage Church Funds

The board authorized the treasurer and bookkeeper to consolidate the church's bank accounts, tracking each designated fund within QuickBooks and keeping a $50,000 interest-bearing reserve. This change reduces the number of accounts to manage while still honoring every designated gift. The board also approved procedures for the church's drop safe, setting clear authorization for who may access it.

Building a Healthy Leadership Team

Board members continued reading The Advantage, Patrick Lencioni's book on organizational health, discussing trust and constructive conflict. Members reflected on how the group's monthly opening devotions help them know one another more deeply, and how a shared focus on the good of the whole church lets them work through honest disagreement together. This conversation builds on the board's ongoing work to grow as a cohesive team grounded in a common purpose.

Listening on a Community Partnership

The board continued its conversation about the Central Kansas Interfaith Justice Organization, a developing coalition of congregations addressing shared community needs such as access to mental health care. After a thoughtful discussion, the board agreed it is not ready to commit yet and will keep gathering information before deciding.

Celebrating Vacation Bible School

The board gave thanks for a strong Vacation Bible School. Thanks to our many volunteers, VBS welcomed around 41 children and served close to 90 dinners each evening. The evening schedule made it easier for families to take part and for volunteers to serve.

Looking Ahead

Board members are reading the new 2026-2027 Membership and Discipleship Guide ahead of next month's discussion. The next Leadership Board meeting is July 22 at 6:00 PM. Thank you for your prayers for the people who serve our congregation in leadership.
