The Tomorrow First HVAC project is moving forward with purpose and energy. One week into construction, the P1 Service crew has been working through the second floor of the education wing — removing old ceiling tiles, demolishing outdated ductwork, and installing the new copper piping that will serve our building for decades to come. Every step of this work is an investment in the ministry that happens in these spaces.

What's Happening

Core drilling is wrapping up this week in the gymnasium, second floor, and mechanical areas — creating the pathways for new piping to run between floors. New ductwork is arriving and installation begins on the second floor. New copper hydronic piping is already being installed above the ceiling — a sign of real progress taking shape behind the scenes.

The team has also made a key decision: we are taking the current chiller offline next Monday to begin mechanical room demo, and there will be no seasonal changeover with the current system. The next time cooling runs in this building, it will be the new system. This gives us a chance to get ahead of our currently projected schedule and helps us avoid being without cooling in May and June when it matters most. We've never outguessed the Kansas weather yet, so getting ahead seemed worth taking.

What to Expect

Construction continues Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Some second floor rooms are temporarily unavailable on Wednesday evenings as materials are staged. Worship continues on our regular schedule in the sanctuary without interruption.

Looking Ahead

March 9 brings the next wave of activity: roof curb installation begins, electricians arrive on site, and first floor piping work starts in the hallway. New fan coil units begin arriving March 16, and the new chiller ships at the end of March. The project remains on track for completion in mid-July.

By the Numbers

110 households have made commitments to the Tomorrow First campaign, with $1,844,683 pledged — exceeding our $1.75 million goal. To date, $835,372 has been received, bringing us to 48% of our campaign goal.

How to Give

Give online at mcphersonfirst.org/give (select "Tomorrow First"), by mail to 1200 E Kansas Ave, McPherson, KS 67460, or place gifts in the worship offering plate marked "Tomorrow First."

Every piece of copper piping hung above the ceiling, every core drilled through the floor, every old duct removed — these are acts of faithful stewardship. We are building something that will serve this congregation and community for the next 30 to 40 years. Thank you for your generosity, your patience during construction, and your partnership in this vision. Together, we invest in what God is doing through this church — today and for generations to come.
