The McPherson First United Methodist Church Leadership Board will meet Wednesday, July 23 at 6:00 PM to discuss several significant initiatives that will shape our congregation's future. The meeting includes both action items requiring votes and important updates on ongoing projects.
The Building Maintenance Team will present a recommendation to switch insurance providers from State Farm and Progressive to GuideOne Insurance. The proposed change would save approximately $18,000 per year while providing more comprehensive coverage, including protection for portable electronics, cyber security, and employment practices liability. The new policies would also reduce the church's wind and hail damage deductible from $206,000 to $25,000 through additional coverage.
The Board will consider how to allocate $6,790 from the McPherson Community Foundation's annual distribution. The recommendation includes providing transitional pay for Deacon Jeanne Koontz, who recently concluded her service, with remaining funds supporting the Servant Outreach Fund that assists neighbors experiencing financial hardship.
A new opportunity has emerged through a Community Development Block Grant that could provide up to $1.5 million for facility improvements and community programming. The City of McPherson has agreed to serve as the applicant, with potential programs including an early childhood center, expanded mission facilities, or a multi-use community center. The grant would complement the HVAC project and create new opportunities for serving our neighbors.
The Board will discuss the previously announced 2026 staffing adjustments designed to create financial sustainability. These changes, effective January 1, align our expenses with projected giving while maintaining core ministries.
Additionally, Pastor Andrew will introduce a vision process looking toward the church's 160th birthday in 2034. Using Patrick Lencioni's "The Advantage" framework, this congregational process would engage members in defining our identity, purpose, and strategies for the next decade.
The HVAC Ministry Team reports the project continues on track for fall approval. Recent milestones include completion of 60% drawings and multiple congregational updates. The separate Tomorrow First Capital Campaign continues building momentum toward its September 14 public launch.
The Leadership Board meeting is Wednesday, July 23 at 6:00 PM. Maynard Lewis will lead the spiritual formation. The meeting will include time for consent items covering financial reports, metrics, and ministry updates before addressing the action items.
Members with questions about any agenda items are encouraged to contact the church office or speak with Leadership Board members.
