The Leadership Board met on March 25 with a full agenda that included a significant capital investment, early conversations about our church's mission and vision, and forward-looking budget and endowment planning.
The board unanimously approved allocating up to $50,000 from investments for building technology and security improvements. The funding covers network cabling, an access control system, a security camera system, loudspeaker repositioning, and a new mixing console for the sanctuary. Several of these projects are timed to coincide with the Tomorrow First HVAC construction while ceilings are open, making installation more practical and cost-effective.
The board began a conversation about formally adopting our church's mission and core values. The United Methodist mission — "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world" — and the values of "Love boldly. Serve joyfully. Lead courageously" were presented for discussion. Board members affirmed the direction and offered thoughtful feedback, including the importance of making sure our mission reflects the welcoming, inclusive spirit that defines our congregation. A vote on formal adoption is anticipated at the April 22 meeting.
The board reviewed a draft Ministry Funding Plan for 2026-2027, which shows expenses holding relatively flat after a significant decrease. The board affirmed the intent to limit the annual endowment draw to 4% of investments for operating expenses, allowing the fund to continue growing. The board also discussed a proposed update to the Endowment Fund policy, organizing it into four funds: Legacy, Leadership Development, Building and Grounds, and Next Generation. This updated policy will be brought to the congregation for a vote at the fall Charge Conference.
The board is adopting a new agenda format that introduces topics one meeting before they come to a vote, giving members time to reflect and prepare. Board members are also completing the annual clergy assessment process — responses can be sent to our board secretary by April 20. The next Leadership Board meeting is April 22 at 6:00 PM.
