You can have a good day, a genuinely good day, and lose it in about four seconds. You are content with your car until you see the one in your neighbor's driveway. You are proud of your kitchen until you scroll past someone else's. Nothing about your life changed. Only the comparison did.
Week four of The Good Life closes the series with the last of the Ten Commandments, the only one that reaches past our hands and into our wanting. Do not covet. Researchers who study money and happiness keep landing on the same finding: ask people how much they would need to feel secure and the answer comes back at roughly double what they have, at every point on the scale. Enough was never a number. It is a horizon that walks away at exactly your pace. This last word arrives on a Communion Sunday, at a table where a restless people finally hears the thing the whole series has been circling.
Worship at McPherson First on Sundays at 8:30 AM (hymns and organ) and 10:15 AM (praise team), or online at youtube.com/@mcphersonfirst. September 6 is a Communion Sunday and the close of this series.
