We're honored you're considering McPherson First United Methodist Church as part of your wedding journey. Whether you've been part of our congregation for years or are new to our community, we want to support you as you begin this new chapter together.

A Christian wedding is a worship service celebrating God's love and the covenant you're making with each other. Our pastoral staff will work with you to create a ceremony that is meaningful, personal, and grounded in faith.

Preparing for Marriage

Our pastors meet with couples three to four times before the wedding. These conversations cover the faith and theology behind Christian marriage, practical topics that strengthen relationships, and the details of your ceremony. This time together helps ensure your wedding day reflects who you are as a couple and the commitment you're making.

Your Wedding Team

  • Pastor – One of our pastoral staff will officiate your ceremony and guide you through premarital preparation.
  • Wedding Coordinator – For weddings at the church, we provide a coordinator who knows our building and procedures. They'll assist with rehearsal, manage the day-of details, and make sure everything runs smoothly. If you have an outside wedding planner, they're welcome to work alongside our coordinator.
  • Musicians – We can help coordinate an organist or pianist for your ceremony. If you have a musician in mind, they're welcome to consult with our music director beforehand.

Good to Know

  • Music should be appropriate for Christian worship. Your pastor can help guide these decisions.
  • Photography is welcome before and after the ceremony, and during the processional and recessional. During the ceremony itself, we ask photographers to avoid flash photography. Video recording is permitted as long as it doesn't distract from the service.
  • Decorations – Our worship symbols and furniture remain in place during weddings. No tacks, tape on furniture, or glitter, please.
  • After the ceremony – For safety reasons, we ask that rice and confetti not be thrown. Birdseed is welcome outside the building.
  • Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on church property. Smoking is permitted outside the building only.
  • Marriage license – Please bring your signed license to the rehearsal and give it to the wedding coordinator.
  • Scheduling – We're unable to host weddings on certain dates due to worship services and church commitments, including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Holy Week, Thanksgiving Day, and Annual Conference (early June). Other restrictions may apply depending on the church calendar.
  • Deposit – A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to reserve your date. This deposit is applied toward your total, with the remaining balance due one week before the wedding.
