The Leadership Board met on May 20 and took final action on next year's ministry budget, continued shaping an updated endowment policy, and explored a new community partnership. Dean Brown opened the meeting with a Memorial Day reflection on gratitude for the people who nurtured our faith.

2026-2027 Ministry Funding Plan Approved

The board unanimously approved the Ministry Funding Plan for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. The plan anticipates revenue of $722,539 and operating expenses of $706,900, sets aside an operational reserve of $14,451, and projects a surplus of $1,188. The board also approved writing off $4,393.89 in old outstanding items, some dating back to 2021, so our balance sheet reflects current reality.

Endowment Fund Policy Taking Shape

The board continued work on an updated Endowment Fund policy organized into four funds: Legacy, Leadership Development, Building and Grounds, and Next Generation. Members also discussed entrusting the Cassler Funds to the Kansas Methodist Foundation for distribution to missions. The full policy text returns to the board in June, with congregational action planned at the fall Charge Conference.

Building a Healthy Organization

Board members shared reflections on the opening section of The Advantage, Patrick Lencioni's book on organizational health, celebrating growth in transparency, unity, and Christ-centered decision making over the past several years. This conversation builds on the board's April affirmation of our mission, to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and our values: Love boldly. Serve joyfully. Lead courageously. Pastor Andrew will bring a draft document to the board to help create further clarity about who we are and where we are headed.

Exploring a Community Partnership

The board heard an initial presentation on the Central Kansas Interfaith Justice Organization, a developing coalition of congregations working together on community needs. A similar group in Lawrence identified mental health as a priority and helped secure funding for a mental health facility. The board will gather more details about membership and commitments before further conversation.

Looking Ahead

The next Leadership Board meeting is June 24 at 6:00 PM. Thank you for your prayers for the people who serve our congregation in leadership.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Andrew
