At McPherson First, we believe people grow as Christians when they have clear expectations about what following Jesus looks like, practical ways to live out their faith, and committed friends who support them on the journey. One of the most foundational practices in our Discipleship Pathway is reading Scripture—it's part of how we keep our membership promise of "Prayers: Talk with God."
Starting in January, I'm inviting you to grow in Scripture alongside me through a series of monthly reading plans. Each month we'll feature a new BibleProject reading plan—ranging from 4 to 28 days—so you can jump in whenever works for you. These plans pair daily Scripture readings with short animated videos that illuminate the text and show how the whole Bible connects.
If you're new to reading the Bible or want a fresh start, this 10-day plan is perfect. You'll sample different types of biblical literature: the stories of Ruth and Jonah from the Old Testament, plus three short New Testament letters (Philemon, 1 John, and 1 Peter). It's designed to help you understand how the Bible communicates and build confidence for deeper study.
The plan launches January 1—a great way to start the new year.
For those ready for a bigger commitment, I'll be launching "One Story That Leads to Jesus"—a 358-day journey through the entire Bible—on July 1. This timing aligns with our new ministry year and gives you the first half of 2026 to build momentum with shorter plans. Each day includes Scripture reading, a Psalm for reflection, and access to more than 150 animated videos. If that feels like too much, we'll also offer a 9-day "Introduction to the Christian Faith" plan starting the same day. More details coming this spring.
The easiest way to follow along is through the free YouVersion Bible App.
Step 1: Download the app at bible.com/app. It's available for iPhone, Android, and any web browser.
Step 2: Follow McPherson First at mcphersonfirst.org/next. When you follow our church, you'll see when future reading plans launch and can join with one tap.
Step 3: Join the January plan with me at bible.com/reading-plans/22469/together. This link adds you to the 10-day Biblical Overview plan starting January 1.
Want to read on your own schedule? You can start the Biblical Overview plan anytime without joining a group.
Here's the complete reading schedule if you'd rather read from a printed Bible:
For enhanced study, BibleProject offers free videos for each book at bibleproject.com. Search for Ruth, Jonah, Philemon, 1 John, or 1 Peter to watch their animated overviews.
Whether you join for ten days or the whole year, you're taking a step toward knowing God more deeply. I hope you'll join me.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Andrew
