This week marks the biggest visible milestone in our Tomorrow First construction project so far. On Tuesday, April 28, a crane lifted the new chiller and a set of rooftop energy recovery ventilators into place. With those pieces set, almost every major piece of new mechanical equipment is now on our property, ready to be connected, tested, and brought to life over the weeks ahead.

What's Happening

The new chiller (which produces the cold water that will eventually cool the building) is now sitting on its pad outside. The four rooftop energy recovery ventilators, the units that bring in fresh outdoor air while capturing the energy from the air leaving the building, are set on the roof. The crew also pressure-tested the new piping on the second floor this week, an important step that confirms the work behind our walls and above our ceilings is sound before everything gets buttoned up.

Inside the building, the team continues installing fan coil units, ductwork, and controls. Six additional rooms (five on the second floor and one on the first floor) are scheduled to receive a four-inch ceiling drop in mid-May, matching the look of the rooms already completed. This change keeps the project moving cleanly toward finish-out without the need for extensive patching later.

The thermostats and control panels for the new system are arriving this week and next. Soon, members will be able to see the touchpoints of the new system showing up in familiar spaces.

What to Expect

Most rooms in the building will be available again for Sunday worship and weekday ministry by the end of this week. The crew has worked hard to keep ministry life moving while major equipment installation has unfolded behind the scenes.

Looking Ahead

The week of May 4, the team will install ductwork in Rooms 209 to 216 on the second floor and continue reinstalling the air handling units that serve our second-floor spaces. The vertical fan coil units that serve our first-floor rooms are expected to ship May 12. Two additional fan coil units that had to be reordered are now expected in early June. The project remains on track for completion at the end of June.

By the Numbers

As of this week, 113 households have made a commitment to the Tomorrow First campaign, with $1,845,113 pledged and $918,119 received. We are at 52 percent of our $1.75 million goal, with more than two years remaining in the campaign giving period.

How to Give

Give online at mcphersonfirst.org/give (select "Tomorrow First"), by mail to 1200 E Kansas Ave, McPherson, KS 67460, or place gifts in the worship offering plate marked "Tomorrow First."

Each piece of equipment now in place represents prayers offered, gifts given, and trust extended toward what God has next for our church. Thank you for the patience, generosity, and care that have brought us to this milestone. Tomorrow First, indeed.
